Best Portable Jump Starters in Canada (2026)

A jump starter needs to match your vehicle and be ready when you need it. This guide compares compact lithium packs, heavier service units and a booster with an inflator. Start with the required battery voltage and approved application, then compare charging, clamp access and carrying weight—not peak amps alone.

Quick choices

For occasional personal use, focus on a compatible pack you can store and keep charged. Workshop and fleet use put more weight on cable reach, repeat use and serviceability. A dual-voltage unit is a separate purchase decision, not an upgrade for every car.

Compare vehicle fit, charging and portability

Compare the exact configuration, intended use and main limitation. Published specifications and any named independent tests have different evidence limits; this is a research comparison, not a head-to-head test by Worth Buying Canada.

Match the starter to the vehicle and storage conditions

Check the vehicle and starter instructions for battery voltage, engine suitability and connection procedure. Peak-amp claims alone are not a comparable cold-start test.

Consider clamp access, cable length and whether you can keep the pack charged within its storage limits. An emergency device that is discharged or inaccessible cannot help.

Keep jump-start capability separate from charging, inflating or power-bank extras. The guide does not establish a guaranteed start for a damaged battery or a particular temperature.

Evidence-based selection method

We considered exact-model information for Canadian buyers, published specifications, application fit and first-hand ownership accounts. Owner feedback was checked for actual use, model identity, duration and practical drawbacks; unused purchases and comments about different products do not establish performance. Private nationwide unit sales were not available, so no unsupported “number-one seller” claim is made.

Detailed recommendations

Pick 1 · Best overall compact

1. NOCO Boost Plus GB40 — Best overall compact

NOCO Boost Plus GB40 product image
Product image linked to the exact product page.

Our take: The GB40 is a compact starting point for a compatible passenger vehicle when portability matters more than workshop-style cables and capacity. Compare it with the GBX45 if charging convenience is a priority. Neither is a substitute for checking the exact vehicle and battery requirements.

Published specification: A 12 V lithium jump starter with a 1,000 A peak claim and reverse-polarity protection. That peak figure is not a standardized cold-start result and should not be read as a guaranteed start at a particular temperature.

Safety and care: Charge the pack indoors before severe weather, follow polarity instructions, keep sparks away from the battery, and replace swollen, damaged or deeply discharged lithium packs. A jump starter does not diagnose a failed battery or charging system.

The practical trade-off: A small pack is easier to keep in an emergency bag, but it still needs a charging routine. Check its state of charge before a winter trip rather than discovering a depleted pack beside a disabled vehicle.

Independent evidence: TechGearLab’s April 2026 exact-model hands-on test assessed starting performance, clamps, portability and build.

Pick 2 · Best service-grade with features

2. Clore Jump-N-Carry JNC770R — Best service-grade with features

Clore Jump-N-Carry JNC770R product image
Product image linked to the exact product page.

Our take: The JNC770R is aimed at frequent roadside or workshop use, where a substantial service unit and accessible cables can justify extra bulk. For an occasional personal emergency, compare that carrying and storage burden with a compatible lithium pack.

Published specification: A 12 V sealed lead-acid service unit with a 1,700 peak-amp claim. Battery chemistry, cables and charging requirements distinguish it from a compact lithium booster; a similar amp label does not make the two formats interchangeable.

Safety and care: This unit uses a sealed lead-acid battery. Clore says to recharge after every use and at least every three months when unused, store near room temperature and not below 50°F (10°C) for optimum jump-start performance, never charge or jump-start a frozen battery, and limit each starting attempt to six seconds followed by a three-minute cooldown if the engine does not start. Wear eye protection, keep sparks away from lead-acid batteries, follow polarity instructions and have a damaged or leaking unit inspected or recycled as directed in the manual.

Before choosing it: Identify a storage place and a regular charging arrangement. The JNC770R’s case size and upkeep are easier to accommodate in a garage or service vehicle than in a small everyday emergency bag.

Independent evidence: Car and Driver included the exact JNC770R in its 2026 hands-on jump-starter testing.

Pick 3 · Best for small engines

3. NOCO Boost Sport GB20 — Best for small engines

NOCO Boost Sport GB20 product image
Product image linked to the exact product page.

Our take: The GB20 is the smaller-format choice for a compatible motorcycle or small gasoline-engine application. It makes sense when carrying less is important and the vehicle is within NOCO’s stated limits. Do not buy it as a general spare for several larger vehicles.

Published specification: A compact 12 V lithium pack with a 500 A peak claim. Use the exact application limits to decide whether it fits; cylinder count or a small-looking engine bay is not enough.

When to choose another: If the pack must cover more than one vehicle, check the most demanding approved application rather than the easiest one. The GB20’s compactness is not an advantage if it leaves your main vehicle outside its limits.

Independent evidence: No qualifying exact-model independent hands-on test was confirmed.

Pick 4 · Best mid-size value

4. NOCO Boost XL GB50 — Best mid-size value

NOCO Boost XL GB50 product image
Product image linked to the exact product page.

Our take: The GB50 sits between NOCO’s compact GB40 and larger GB70. Compare it when the vehicle application calls for more than the smaller pack offers but you still want a portable lithium format. Its higher peak label does not establish a proportional improvement in real starts.

Published specification: A 12 V lithium booster with a 1,500 A peak claim. Compare the approved engine applications, charging arrangement and carrying size alongside that number.

Buying decision: Choose the GB50 for a documented vehicle fit, not as an automatic upgrade because it costs more or advertises more amps. If the GB40 already covers your application, the differences need to justify the extra purchase cost.

Independent evidence: No qualifying exact-model independent hands-on test was confirmed.

Pick 5 · Best for trucks and SUVs

5. NOCO Boost HD GB70 — Best for trucks and SUVs

NOCO Boost HD GB70 product image
Product image linked to the exact product page.

Canadian retailer check — September 11, 2026: Canadian Tire listed the exact GB70 with pickup and same-day availability at the checked store; stock and delivery options vary by location.

Our take: The GB70 is worth comparing for a larger compatible gasoline or diesel engine when a compact emergency pack does not cover the required application. Its size and cost are harder to justify for occasional use on a small car.

Published specification: A 12 V lithium unit with a 2,000 A peak claim. The truck or SUV label is only shorthand; check your actual engine and battery system against the manual.

Carrying and access: Check where the pack can sit during the approved connection procedure and whether the clamps can reach the specified connection points. Buying a larger unit does not solve awkward battery access by itself.

Independent evidence: No qualifying exact-model independent hands-on test was confirmed.

Pick 6 · Best legacy high-output

6. NOCO Boost Pro GB150 — Best legacy high-output

NOCO Boost Pro GB150 product image
Product image linked to the exact product page.

Our take: The GB150 is a large-format lithium option to assess for a specific demanding application. Before buying, compare its charging interface, included accessories and current support with the Boost X alternatives. A 3,000 A headline alone is not a reason to choose the older design.

Published specification: A 12 V lithium jump starter with a 3,000 A peak claim. The relevant comparison is the complete usable package and its approved applications, not a ranking by that claim.

Main trade-off: More bulk and expense need a clear purpose. For a small passenger vehicle, a smaller compatible model can be easier to store and maintain without paying for a service-oriented format.

Independent evidence: No qualifying exact-model independent hands-on test was confirmed.

Product and source links: View on Amazon ↗

Pick 7 · Best high-output portable

7. NOCO Boost X GBX75 — Best high-output portable

NOCO Boost X GBX75 product image
Product image linked to the exact product page.

Our take: The GBX75 is a Boost X option for larger compatible applications where the compact GBX45 is not the right fit. Compare its size, charging equipment and vehicle limits before choosing it as a travel kit.

Published specification: A 12 V lithium pack with a 2,500 A peak claim. This is not a model-matched winter starting measurement; temperature, charge and the connection still affect the outcome.

Charging check: Verify which charging accessories the offer includes. A useful recharge specification does not mean the required power adapter comes in the box or that any USB-C charger will deliver the advertised speed.

Independent evidence: No qualifying exact-model independent hands-on test was confirmed.

Product and source links: View on Amazon ↗

Pick 8 · Best service-grade lead-acid

8. Clore Jump-N-Carry JNC660 — Best service-grade lead-acid

Clore Jump-N-Carry JNC660 product image
Product image linked to the exact product page.

Our take: The JNC660 is a straightforward service-style alternative to a compact lithium pack. It suits a setup with dedicated storage and regular recharging better than a lightweight bag carried between vehicles. Compare its cable reach and controls with the JNC770R rather than their similar peak labels alone.

Published specification: A 12 V sealed lead-acid unit with a 1,700 peak-amp claim. Its weight is part of the format; choose it for the service arrangement you need, not glove-box portability.

Main trade-off: The storage and charging commitment continues between uses. If the unit will sit forgotten in a vehicle for long periods, address that maintenance problem before buying a larger pack.

Independent evidence: No qualifying exact-model independent hands-on test was confirmed.

Product and source links: View on Amazon.ca; Clore JNC660 operator’s manual. Owner source: Walmart Canada.

Pick 9 · Best 12/24-V commercial

9. Clore Jump-N-Carry JNC1224 — Best 12/24-V commercial

Clore Jump-N-Carry JNC1224 product image

Quick verdict: A service-grade jump starter for fleets and heavy vehicles that need selectable 12- or 24-volt operation. Its 3,400/1,700 peak-amp ratings and industrial construction suit commercial use better than a compact lithium pack.

Published specifications in context: Clore specifies two replaceable 22 Ah Clore PROFORMER batteries, 46-inch #2 AWG cables, a built-in automatic charger and 12/24-V selection. The long cables and dual-voltage design are useful around larger vehicles where battery access is awkward.

Best fit and limitation: Choose it for fleet service, commercial trucks and mixed-voltage equipment. At roughly 18 kg, it is much heavier and less convenient for an ordinary passenger-car emergency kit.

Earlier listing check: September 11, 2026.

Safety and care: Confirm the vehicle voltage before connecting, follow polarity instructions, keep sparks away from batteries and maintain the internal batteries according to the manufacturer schedule.

Pick 10 · Best modern compact USB-C

10. NOCO Boost X GBX45 — Best modern compact USB-C

NOCO Boost X GBX45 product image
Product image linked to the exact product page.

Our take: The GBX45 is worth comparing with the GB40 when USB-C charging fits your existing routine. That convenience can make the pack easier to maintain, but it does not prove better cold-start performance in this guide.

Published specification: A 1,250 A-class lithium booster with USB-C recharging. Check the approved vehicle application and the power adapter needed for the charging speed you expect.

Main trade-off: The connector is only part of the charging system. Include a suitable adapter in the cost if the selected package does not supply one.

Independent evidence: No qualifying exact-model independent review was confirmed.

Pick 11 · Jump starter and tire inflator

11. NOCO Boost+Air AX65 — Jump starter and tire inflator

NOCO Boost+Air AX65 product image
Product image linked to the exact Amazon.ca listing.

Quick verdict: The AX65 adds a built-in tire inflator to a 12 V jump starter. It is a practical alternative to carrying two separate roadside tools, provided its supported engine and tire sizes fit your vehicle.

Published specifications: NOCO lists 2,000 A peak output, support for gasoline engines up to 8 L and diesel engines up to 6 L, a 100 PSI maximum and 60 W USB-C input/output. Auto-shutoff works only when pressure is above 15 PSI; below 15 PSI, NOCO instructs users to select 0.0 and stop Manual Air Mode themselves. These are manufacturer claims, not measured starting performance from Worth Buying Canada.

Package: The listing includes booster clamps, a three-foot inflation hose, adapters, a USB-C cable and a bag. Check the supplied charging equipment before assuming a 60 W wall charger is included.

Main limitation: Below 15 PSI the compressor does not use normal set-pressure auto-shutoff, so the user must stop Manual Air Mode. Inflation also uses the same stored energy needed for jump starting; check charge after inflating and follow NOCO’s seven-minutes-at-30-PSI, 53-minutes-rest duty cycle.

Availability check: Amazon.ca showed this exact configuration in stock on September 11, 2026. Seller, delivery and package contents can change.

Independent evidence: No independent exact-model hands-on test was confirmed.

Safety and care: Follow the vehicle and booster manuals. Keep the pack charged and within its specified temperatures. Do not use a damaged pack or attempt to jump a frozen battery.

Product and specification sources: NOCO Boost+Air AX65 on Amazon.ca; NOCO AX65 operating guide.

Pick 12 · Highest-output lithium pick

12. NOCO Boost X GBX155 — Highest-output lithium pick

NOCO Boost X GBX155 product image
Product image linked to the exact product page.

Canadian retailer check — September 11, 2026: Batteries Expert listed the exact GBX155 as a stocked item. Inventory and delivery remain location-dependent.

Our take: The GBX155 belongs on a shortlist for a demanding, documented vehicle or service requirement. For most compact-car emergency kits, its bulk and cost need more justification than the largest amp figure in the comparison.

Published specification: A 12 V lithium unit with a 4,250 A peak claim. That does not make it a 24 V starter, nor establish that it can overcome a mechanical fault or damaged battery.

Before buying: Check the approved application, complete charging package and space needed to carry it securely. Compare a smaller compatible Boost X model if the main reason for moving up is reassurance rather than an actual requirement.

Independent evidence: No qualifying exact-model independent review was confirmed.

Pick 13 · Display and USB-C charging option

13. WOLFBOX MV24 — Display and USB-C charging option

WOLFBOX MV24 product image
Product image linked to the exact Amazon.ca listing.

Quick verdict: The MV24 combines a visible status screen with USB-C charging and a supplied charger. It suits drivers who want to see the pack’s condition before connecting it to a vehicle.

Published specifications: WOLFBOX lists a 12 V booster with 88.8 Wh capacity, a 4,000 A peak claim, LCD display and 65 W USB-C input/output. The advertised engine limit is up to 10 L for gasoline or diesel; do not compare peak-amp figures as if they came from a common test.

Package: The selected MV24 listing includes a PD65W charger. Confirm the MV24 configuration at checkout; the similarly named MV24Air adds an inflator and is a different product.

Main limitation: No built-in preheating feature was verified. Keep the pack within its specified operating and charging temperatures and do not assume a cold-soaked battery will deliver its headline output.

Availability check: Amazon.ca showed this exact configuration in stock on September 11, 2026. Seller, delivery and package contents can change.

Independent evidence: No independent exact-model hands-on test was confirmed.

Pick 14 · Fast USB-C recharging option

14. GOOLOO GT4000S — Fast USB-C recharging option

GOOLOO GT4000S product image
Product image linked to the exact Amazon.ca listing.

Quick verdict: The GT4000S prioritizes rapid recharging and a readable display. Its included car charger can be useful after an emergency boost, once the vehicle’s charging system is working normally.

Published specifications: GOOLOO lists 4,000 A peak output for 12 V vehicles, a 3.2-inch screen and USB-C charging up to 100 W. Its own GT4000S material conflicts: headline/specification sections claim up to 12 L gasoline and 10 L diesel, while another exact-product passage says 10 L gasoline and 8 L diesel. We therefore treat the engine ceiling as unresolved and do not rely on the higher claim.

Package: The listing includes a 100 W car charger, jumper cables, USB cables, a DC socket adapter and a storage bag. A compatible wall charger may need to be purchased separately.

Main limitation: Manufacturer-published engine limits conflict, so buyers should not select it for a vehicle near the claimed ceiling without direct confirmation from GOOLOO. It is also not a verified self-heating winter booster, and no independent exact-model cold-start test was confirmed.

Availability check: Amazon.ca showed this exact configuration in stock on September 11, 2026. Seller, delivery and package contents can change.

Independent evidence: No independent exact-model hands-on test was confirmed.

Product and specification sources: GOOLOO GT4000S on Amazon.ca; GOOLOO Canada exact-model page.

Pick 15 · Best heavy-duty 12-V cartless

15. Clore Jump-N-Carry JNC950 — Best heavy-duty 12-V cartless

Clore Jump-N-Carry JNC950 product image
Product image linked to the exact product page.

Our take: The JNC950 is a substantial 12 V service unit for a setup where carrying weight and dedicated storage are acceptable. Compare it for a workshop or service vehicle, not as the natural choice for an occasional personal emergency.

Published specification: A high-capacity service pack with a 2,000 peak-amp claim. Its usefulness depends on the approved application, cable access and maintenance routine rather than that number in isolation.

Main trade-off: A large lead-acid unit demands space and regular charging. Make sure those are practical before choosing it over a smaller compatible model.

Independent evidence: No qualifying exact-model independent review was confirmed.

Product and source links: View exact JNC950 on Amazon.ca; Clore JNC950 operator’s manual.

Technical deep dive: starting current, cable loss and winter battery behaviour

A jump starter succeeds only if enough current reaches the vehicle’s starter at sufficient voltage for long enough to crank the engine. Peak-amp labels are manufacturer-specific and are not interchangeable with a vehicle battery’s standardized CCA rating. Pack temperature, state of charge, clamp contact, cable resistance, engine oil viscosity, displacement and the condition of the vehicle battery all affect the result. For Canadian winter storage, keeping a lithium pack charged and warmer than the parked vehicle can matter more than buying the largest advertised peak number.

Make a vehicle shortlist before comparing prices

Write down the vehicle voltage, battery type, engine displacement and fuel type. NOCO’s published application limits distinguish its packs: GB20 up to 4 L gasoline; GB40 up to 6 L gasoline/3 L diesel; GB50 up to 7 L/4.5 L; GB70 up to 8 L/6 L; and GB150 up to 9 L/7 L. Boost X limits are GBX45 up to 6.5 L/4 L, GBX75 up to 8.5 L/6 L and GBX155 up to 10 L/8 L. These are manufacturer application limits, not guaranteed cold starts. The vehicle and exact starter instructions take precedence.

Compare the complete charging setup

After checking vehicle compatibility, compare what you need to keep the pack ready: the supplied cable, required adapter and a convenient place to recharge. The MV24 package lists a 65 W charger, while the GT4000S package lists a 100 W car charger. A car charger is not a wall charger, and the GT4000S’s conflicting engine limits remain unresolved. Do not let a convenient accessory outweigh an uncertain vehicle fit.

Choose a combination tool for a real second job

The AX65 can replace a separate booster and tire inflator, but both functions draw on the same stored energy. Its low-pressure Manual Air Mode and compressor duty cycle require attention, as described above. If you mainly want a jump starter, compare the extra size and controls with a booster-only pack; if you regularly top up tires, the combined format may be easier to organise.

Separate service equipment from a personal emergency kit

The JNC660, JNC770R and JNC950 need a carrying and charging arrangement that suits their service-oriented format. The JNC1224 adds selectable voltage for appropriate commercial equipment; it is not a higher setting to try on a 12 V car. Decide where the unit will live and who will maintain it before paying for capability you may rarely use.

Winter reliability checklist

  • Recharge the booster on a regular schedule and before severe-weather travel.
  • Keep lithium packs within the manufacturer’s storage/charging temperature limits; do not charge a frozen pack unless explicitly permitted.
  • Clean corrosion from vehicle battery terminals and make solid clamp contact.
  • Match 12V versus 24V systems exactly.
  • After a successful boost, diagnose repeated no-start events rather than assuming the booster is the permanent solution.

What the evidence can establish

Published specifications establish the intended application, not a success rate in Canadian winter conditions. Named independent tests and model-matched owner reports can add useful context, but none makes every start certain. No hands-on starting, temperature or durability testing was performed by Worth Buying Canada.
