Best Snow Blower for Long Driveways in Canada

A long driveway makes runtime, turning and repeat passes just as important as clearing width. The right snow blower needs to suit the whole route—including the parking pad and the bank left by the road plow.

Plan for the whole clearing route

Measure the driveway, parking pad and walkways separately, then consider where you will turn and throw the snow. Two properties with the same area can involve very different amounts of work.

Battery power avoids fuel and oil servicing, but a charging break can interrupt a long job. Decide whether you can pause during a storm or need spare charged batteries before choosing the machine.

Local service matters on a machine you rely on after every storm. Find out who can supply parts and handle repairs before you buy.

BATTERY OPTION

  • Runtime or refuelling: a gas machine can be back to work in minutes; battery owners need enough charged capacity or spare packs.
  • Self-propel: important once the job lasts longer than a quick suburban pass.
  • Clearing width: 24–28 inches reduces passes without becoming unmanageable.
  • Plow-bank performance: the end of the driveway is often the hardest part of the job.
  • Serviceability: long-driveway machines work harder and deserve good local parts support.

Detailed recommendation

Pick 1 · Battery option for one long residential driveway

1. EGO SNT2416 — Battery option for one long residential driveway

Historical retailer offer note September 11, 2026: The SNT2416 kit includes two 10.0Ah batteries and a dual-port charger. The checked iGO+ Canada offer was in stock at C$2,499 plus a displayed C$250 delivery charge. Confirm the total and delivery estimate for your address before buying.

EGO SNT2416 cordless snow blower

Quick verdict: Consider the EGO SNT2416 if you want a full-size two-stage blower without routine engine maintenance and can plan around battery charging. Its self-propelled drive helps on a long route; the deciding question is whether the battery plan covers your entire property, not just the main driveway.

What comes in the kit: A 24-inch two-stage blower, two 10.0Ah batteries and a dual-port charger. Trigger steering and forward/reverse drive help with turns and repositioning.

The main compromise: Snow depth, wetness and the plow bank all affect how far a charge goes. A depleted pair takes about 160 minutes on the included charger, so a spare set or a planned break matters more here than a maximum throwing-distance claim.

Winter storage: The blower is rated for operation down to -20°C, while EGO recommends charging at 5°C or warmer. Plan a suitable place for the batteries as well as the blower. With batteries fitted, the machine weighs roughly 162 lb; self-propel does not make it light to lift.

When it fits: One long residential driveway when the included battery capacity is sufficient. Skip it if: You clear multiple properties or cannot pause for charging.

Whole-property decision: include the parking pad, walkways and repeat plow visits in the job. The EGO review’s worked pass calculation turns driveway dimensions into a route estimate. It cannot predict whether one charge finishes the route.

Plan the route before buying

At a nominal 24-inch clearing width, each pass covers only part of a driveway. Allow for overlap and turns, then include the parking pad and paths. A wider housing can reduce passes, but only if you still have room to turn and store it comfortably.

Will one battery session cover your property?

Start with the area, not a parking-space claim. A 30-metre driveway that is 3 metres wide has 90 square metres to clear before adding a parking pad or walkway. That calculation measures the job; it does not predict battery runtime.

Allow overlap between passes, room to turn and somewhere to discharge the snow without repeatedly moving it. A long narrow driveway and a wide parking pad with the same area can take different routes and amounts of work.

If you clear several properties or cannot stop during a prolonged storm, compare gas refuelling with the cost and storage needs of spare batteries. This kit is a conditional choice for a long driveway, not a guarantee of one-charge clearing.
